My story
My journey with mud began at the beginning of the pandemic. I know a lot of people picked up “new” hobbies at this time, but for me it was just a coincidence. For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to touch clay, pretty sure that as a child my favorite play item was mud in the yard. The problem was even though I went to art school, I never had the opportunity to try ceramics. Some of the things I have experimented with are painting, jewelry making, stained glass, book binding, drawing, photography, crochet, knitting… oh this list could go on for a very long time. With all these I still felt like I was missing something. Luckily for me there was a local studio offering wheel throwing classes and I signed up immediately. It was love at first touch, an obsession, I couldn’t get enough. Any and all free time I spend reading about new to me techniques, watching other ceramists work, creating and falling deeper in love.
My Philosphy
I have always loved art. My house looks like a gallery on the walls for the number of collected paintings, prints, and random items that can be displayed. One of my biggest beliefs is that everyone and I mean EVERYONE should be able to surround themselves with art. It is a pathway to creating a sense of well being and exploration of thought. The only other thing to me that ranks this high is music, but I digress. In my deep belief that ART should be available for everyone I strive to create items that the everyday person can enjoy and use. You shouldn’t have to spend a fortune to feel as though you have something special. I know that I feel a happiness when using homemade ceramics to drink out of, to eat off of, and to just use in everyday life, and I want for everyone to be able to do the same.
